Salix's Projects

A note: we had to classify these somehow! However, all our projects have an educational component, and we may run special projects if requested. Feel free to submit an idea.

Carers

The Perthshire Carers' Project supports individuals who are currently caring for a relative with dementia, in person or by telephone.

We also hold Carers' Education courses, with a frequency determined by demand.

Education

The Information Project aims to provide high-quality information to anyone with an interest in dementia. It includes our newsletter, sent to members, Dayspring learners, and nursing or care homes, as well as most of the material on this website: the forthcoming Toolkit for Dementia, excerpted on this site is a key element of the project.

As part of the Project, we offer the Alois Alzheimer Roadshow for Schools, an essay competition for students of secondary age up, and in Scotland. Workers visit the school or college (with co-operation from Head and staff, of course) and introduce dementia and its effects on people. The students are then challenged to research and write an essay to be entered in the competition for a ₤50 book token.

While the workers are in the school, they will make themselves available for any student who would like a confidential chat. It has been shown that taking a scientific interest in the subject to be studied can alleviate many fears and help the young person to deal with the situation.

Golden Years Rock is our project to take music into Care Homes.

Overseas Outreach

Pangolin Project
We are committed to providing training to workers in Tanzania, through our sister organisation, Dayspring. In the longer term, we should like to set-up daycare (specialised to local requirements) in the Mara Region, Arusha and Dar-es-Salaam. We have not managed to obtain funding for this project yet, but continue trying.
